Does my company need to run a Driving Record Check?

Running a driving record check, also known as a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) or driving abstract, is a critical step for any business that employs drivers. Whether you’re in trucking, transportation, delivery services, or field operations, checking driving records helps identify unsafe drivers, reduce liability, and maintain regulatory compliance.

Our service allows you to screen job applicants during the hiring process and monitor current employees for any violations, suspensions, or changes in license status that could put your company at risk.

If your business is regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT), it is federally mandated under FMCSA Regulation 391.25 to pull a driving record at the time of hire and conduct an annual review of each driver’s MVR. This requirement ensures your drivers meet safety standards and that your company remains DOT compliant.

Failing to conduct proper MVR checks can result in fines, legal issues, higher insurance premiums, and unsafe drivers on the road. Make DrivingRecord.net your trusted partner for efficient, accurate, and FMCSA-compliant driver screening.

FMCSA - PSP Report

FMCSA – PSP Reports

Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administrations’s (FMCSA) Pre-Employment Screening Program (PSP)

Why a PSP Report Matters for Driver Safety and Compliance

A PSP (Pre-Employment Screening Program) report provides critical insight into a commercial driver’s safety history by detailing their most recent 5 years of FMCSA-reported crash data and 3 years of roadside inspection records. This data is pulled directly from the FMCSA’s Motor Carrier Management Information System (MCMIS).

Motor carriers that run PSP reports during the hiring process can better identify drivers with safe driving habits and strong inspection records. Retaining drivers with clean PSP records not only supports FMCSA compliance, but also improves fleet safety, reduces accident risk, and boosts overall operational efficiency.

Using PSP data helps carriers make informed decisions that lead to higher safety standards, better DOT audit outcomes, and a stronger bottom line.
